KB Sax proprietary measurement gauges
For US customers
To ensure the best possible fit when you try a KB Sax handcrafted neck, we have designed a set of tenon receiver measuring gauges. They are sized in 0.001” (one thousandth of an inch) increments and come in 42 different sizes.
When ordering a neck, simply tell us the brand, model, serial number and condition of your saxophone and we will send you a set of four measuring gauges, 0.001” apart. With these gauges, you can then measure the exact size of your tenon receiver and notify us which one fits best. Once we receive the gauges back from you, we will ship you a neck that has a tenon specifically sized to your horn. There is no shipping charge for the shipping and return shipping of the tenon receiver gauges.
* We ask that you must ship the measuring gauges back to us within 7 days. These gauges are specifically made and are not easily replaced. We need to cover the cost of these gauges ($250) if we do not receive them back. Hence we have a policy: if they are not shipped back by the customer within 7 days, their order may be cancelled and will receive a refund minus $250.
For International customers:
We have many customers that live outside the US and at this point we can only ship our measuring gauges to our US customers.
However, there are a couple of things you, as an international customers can do to help give us the best chances for a good neck-fit:
1: Always tell us the saxophone brand, serial number and condition. We have acumulated an extensive data base of different saxophones tenon receiver sizes. Based on the condition (like-new, somewhat used or very used), we can “guesstimate” what the correct tenon size is.
2: While not strictly necessary, if you do have access to a quality measuring caliper or have a repair person that can help, then measuring a neck that fits your horn will be helpful. You will need to measure 3-5 different places on the tenon of the neck and give us all numbers. It is important that we get all numbers with two decimal points if in metric – for instance 27.61mm or three decimal points if in inches (US-Imperial) – for instance 1.087”.
3: Although the diameter of the tenon (measurement A on the picture below) is the most important measurement, there are a few other measurements that are helpful to dial in especially the octave key. Please look at the following picture and supply us with measurements B, C and D as well:
There is always a chance that you will need to have the neck professionally adjusted for it to fit perfect in your saxophone. However, by getting us all the above measurements, we can get the sizing as close to optimal as possible.
