This early 5-digit
Mark VI tenor is in excellent shape! It has around 85% of the
original lacquer remaining and a new complete overhaul by the great
repairman Jim Germann has put it in perfect playing shape! Everything
is tight, the action precisely dialed in and it is mechanically in
tip top shape.
Besides a past bell flare repair, the body is in
excellent condition with no other signs of past repairs. The bottom
bow brace is in perfect shape and has never been pushed in.
neck was at some point swapped out for a serial numbered 75,xxx neck.
It was most likely a choice done by a player preferring the sound of
that neck over the original and it is indeed a perfect match with the
The horn came to us with a patch on the side of the neck. We
decided to redo the patch with a plug that is flush on both inside and
outside of the neck tube.
It plays with a super resonant and
lively sound. There is a wonderful “zippy” feeling - brought on
by the smooth mechanics coupled with a vibrant tone feel. It has a
good amount of the classic Mark VI buzz that is balanced nicely with
a wide and colorful tonal spectrum.
The different serial number
on the neck puts this horn in a lower price bracket. However, from a
playing standpoint there is absolutely nothing missing!
